About Hazel Rhodes
Hazel Rhodes is a 400-meter specialist at College of the Canyons, where she has quickly become one of the most dominant sprinters in the California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A). Known for her grit, tactical intelligence on the track, and infectious love for the sport, Hazel’s journey is defined by a relentless pursuit of excellence.
Hazel’s 2025 freshman season was nothing short of historic. She was crowned the Western State Conference (WSC) Champion in the 400m and capped off the year by winning the 3C2A Individual State Title. Her performance and natural leadership earned her the prestigious title of WSC Female Track Athlete of the Year, cementing her status as a top-tier competitor and a vital teammate.
Now in her sophomore season, Hazel continues to redefine her limits. In March 2026, she set a new College of the Canyons school record in the 400m with a blistering time of 53.99 at the Ben Brown Invitational, a mark that currently leads the state. Whether she is leading the pack in the open 400m or anchoring the Cougars' 4x400m relay, Hazel’s determination is the heartbeat of her team.
As she prepares to transition to a Division I program, Hazel remains grounded and focused on the work ahead. She is committed to representing her team, her coaches, and her community with pride, proving that with heart and discipline, the finish line is just the beginning.

The Nickname
Hazel Rhodes earned the nickname “Hawk Down” for her ability to relentlessly hunt down competitors in the final stretch of a race. Like a hawk locking in on its target, Hazel stays patient, focused, and explosive—closing the gap with precision and power when it matters most. Once she makes her move, the outcome is decisive: competitors ahead are “hawked down” before the finish line.
